Each plate of the Song collection is unique – rather than being massed produced, they are hand-carved in a family-run workshop in Jingdezhen, China, where “flaws” become badges of honor, to be flaunted as marks of exclusivity. Each piece displays a variation on the theme of the charger’s all encompassing forest, telling a story in celadon glaze. The pattern itself plays off the artistic concerns of the Song dynasty, defined by humans’ interaction with nature and echoing Latitude 22N’s ideals of a simple, contemporary and natural representation of life.
