Each dessert plate, dinner plate, deep dish and charger of the Song collection is completely unique - rather than being mass produced, they are hand-carved in a family-run workshop in Jingdezhen, China, where “flaws” become badges of honor, to be flaunted as marks of exclusivity. Each piece displays a variation on the theme of the charger’s all encompassing forest, telling a story in celadon glaze. The pattern itself plays off the artistic concerns of the Song dynasty, defined by humans’ interaction with nature and echoing latitude’s ideals of a simple, contemporary and natural representation of life.
When the song collection arrives at the studio, latitude design studio selects only its best examples on the base of which to apply a single golden dot, a sign of its seal of approval.
